KINO – The Drama Premiere

KINO, a Rotterdam-based cinema known for its curated premieres and strong connection to a younger, mixed cinephile audience, invited me to create a mobile photo studio for a special screening of The Drama, inspired by a scene from the film.

Set against a neutral backdrop, guests were photographed using simple wedding props in short sessions. People quickly stepped into character, often with someone they arrived with, sometimes with someone they had just met.

The portraits capture that shift. A mix of couples, friends, and strangers, all briefly inhabiting the same scenario. The images are direct and playful, shaped as much by those being photographed as by those waiting and watching.

I directed each interaction, creating a sense of ease that allowed people to step into the frame and into character very quickly. The images were created for KINO’s online communication, extending the event beyond the screening and reinforcing a shared cinephile community. A constructed setting, activated by its audience, where being photographed became part of the event itself.
